About This Tour

The Canyon de la Vieja Adventure Tour combines outdoor adventure, volcanic landscapes and relaxation during a full-day experience near Liberia, Guanacaste. The activities take place at Cañon de la Vieja Lodge, surrounded by tropical dry forest and the rocky canyons of the Colorado River.

Your day begins with private pickup from your hotel, resort or vacation rental in one of our selected Guanacaste service areas. Travel in an air-conditioned vehicle through the countryside toward the Rincón de la Vieja region, where the lodge’s professional activity guides will welcome you and explain the day’s safety procedures.

The adventure begins with a canopy tour across the Colorado River Canyon. Zip lines connect platforms positioned above the forest, river and volcanic rock formations, creating impressive views of the surrounding landscape. Depending on the operating program, the canopy experience may also include rappelling and rock-climbing elements.

The river portion of the tour offers whitewater rafting or river tubing through Class II and III sections of the Colorado River. Professional river guides provide the required safety equipment and accompany participants throughout the activity. The available river option may depend on the selected package, water levels and operating conditions.

The experience also includes horseback riding along natural trails near the lodge, followed by a traditional Costa Rican lunch. After the more active portions of the day, relax in the volcanic hot springs and enjoy the mud-bath area before changing into dry clothes.

At the end of the tour, your private driver will meet you for the comfortable return journey to your hotel. This full-day combination works well for active travelers, couples, groups and families looking for several Guanacaste adventures in one location.

The canopy course crosses the Colorado River Canyon, while rafting and tubing activities use Class II and III sections of the river.
