About This Tour
The Palo Verde Boat Safari is a family-friendly wildlife experience through the wetlands and tropical dry forest surrounding Palo Verde National Park. This relaxing excursion is ideal for travelers who want to observe Costa Rica’s animals without completing a long or strenuous hike.
Your day begins with private pickup from your hotel, resort or vacation rental in Guanacaste. Travel in an air-conditioned vehicle through rural communities, sugarcane fields, farms and the dry tropical landscapes of the Tempisque River basin.
Upon arrival at the river, meet the naturalist guide and boat captain before boarding a covered motorboat. The wildlife cruise lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and travels through the Tempisque River wetlands near Palo Verde National Park.
During the boat safari, the guide will help locate white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas, bats and resident or migratory birds. Palo Verde protects mangroves, seasonal wetlands, tropical dry forest and other habitats that support more than 280 recorded bird species. Wildlife sightings vary according to the season, weather, water level and movement of the animals.
After the river cruise, enjoy a traditional Costa Rican lunch prepared in a local community. Once lunch is complete, meet your private driver for the return journey to your accommodation.
This tour is especially suitable for families, seniors, photographers and nature lovers because it requires very little walking and no strenuous physical activity.
