The Río Balsa Rafting Tour is the perfect introduction to white-water rafting in Costa Rica. Ideal for first-time rafters, families with children, nature lovers, and adventure seekers, this experience combines exciting rapids, stunning rainforest scenery, and authentic Costa Rican hospitality.

After being picked up from your hotel, you’ll enjoy a scenic drive through Costa Rica’s lush countryside to our private Operations Center, conveniently located right next to the river. We are proud to be the only rafting company in the area offering on-site bathrooms and changing rooms, ensuring your comfort from start to finish.

Upon arrival, you’ll be equipped with top-quality rafting gear, including an NRS helmet, life jacket, and paddle. Our professional and certified river guides will divide guests into small groups of 4 to 5 paddlers, using high-quality 13-foot rafts designed for stability and safety, with space for up to five guests plus the guide.

Before entering the river, your guide will provide a thorough safety briefing and paddling instruction, making sure everyone feels confident and ready. Then the adventure begins as you paddle over 10 kilometers (6 miles) of continuous Class II and III rapids with fun names like “Congo Loco” and “Rock Around the Croc!”

Rafting in Costa Rica is unique due to the rivers’ steep gradients, technical sections, and shallow channels, creating an exciting and dynamic ride surrounded by pristine rainforest. About halfway through the journey, you’ll take a break to relax by the river, enjoy a refreshing swim, and savor a selection of fresh tropical fruits provided by your guides.

At the end of the rafting trip, you’ll be treated to a traditional Costa Rican lunch at a charming rural location, the perfect way to recharge after a day of adventure. Finally, you’ll be driven back to your hotel in comfortable, air-conditioned vans with complimentary Wi-Fi, bringing a memorable day to a relaxing close.
