About This Tour

The Rio Celeste Waterfall Tour takes you into Tenorio Volcano National Park for a guided rainforest hike through one of Costa Rica’s most remarkable volcanic landscapes. The experience combines the famous turquoise river, a dramatic waterfall viewpoint, tropical forest, geological attractions and a visit to Llanos del Cortés Waterfall.

Your day begins with private pickup from your hotel, resort or vacation rental in one of our selected Guanacaste service areas. Travel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle toward Bijagua and Tenorio Volcano National Park while enjoying views of rural communities, farmland and the volcanic mountain range.

After arriving at the park, your bilingual guide will assist with check-in and lead you along the rainforest trail. The route passes through dense vegetation where visitors may observe tropical plants, birds, butterflies and other wildlife. Animal sightings are possible but cannot be guaranteed.

One of the first major attractions is the Río Celeste Waterfall viewpoint. The river drops through the forest into an intensely colored pool surrounded by volcanic rock and tropical vegetation. The waterfall is viewed from the designated trail and observation area, providing an excellent opportunity for nature photography.

The hike continues toward other geological attractions, including the Blue Lagoon, the Borbollones volcanic bubbling area and Teñideros. At Teñideros, two streams come together and the river’s distinctive light-blue appearance becomes visible.

After completing the hike, enjoy an included Costa Rican lunch before continuing toward Llanos del Cortés Waterfall near Bagaces. This second waterfall offers a contrasting environment, with a wide cascade, sandy riverbank and a natural pool surrounded by forest.

When local conditions permit, guests may have time to cool off in the designated water area at Llanos del Cortés. Bring a swimsuit, towel and dry clothes if you plan to enter the water.

At the end of the experience, meet your private driver for the return journey to your hotel. This tour is ideal for nature lovers, photographers, active families and travelers looking to combine rainforest hiking with two of northern Costa Rica’s most recognizable waterfalls.
